I had the privilege of collaborating with The Poetry Society of New York to create graphics for their flagship program, The New York City Poetry Festival. The framework of a poetic future where "words do not merely describe; they disrupt, transform, and rebuild" was developed early on and I jumped at the opportunity to turn this vision into reality.
As outlined in The Poetry Society of New York's Poetopia Core Principles, the idea of sustainability and reciprocity were crucial and it was evident that Poetopia was a world of recycling and upcycling, an idea that needed to be present in the design. The main artwork would be produced using "found objects", images in the public domain, to create something new and unique.
The inspiration came from the natural and supernatural worlds: the landscapes and greenery present in nature and astrological beings such as Leo, Aries, and Capricorn. The combination of these worlds, as well as the collage art style, spoke to the core principles of Poetopia as a site of transformation.
Thanks to the team at The Poetry Society of New York for their support and collaboration.
